Today we will meet a third-year student of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry Technologies and Veterinary Medicine of the Smolensk State Agricultural Academy, Vladislava Shibaeva, who is successfully mastering the curriculum and actively improving her skills in practice.
Vladislava, why did you choose veterinary medicine? Was it a childhood dream or a conscious decision made later?
- Since childhood, I played not with Barbie dolls, but with animal figures. Our smaller brothers were an integral part of our family. The starting points for veterinary medicine were the Animal Precinct program on the Animal Planet channel about pet protection agents, as well as associating myself with Ace Ventura.
What qualities do you think are most important for a successful veterinarian?
- Veterinary medicine is a job that you need to do at the call of your soul, like any other. A sincere love for animals, a willingness and desire to help them, as well as enthusiasm and a desire to develop, improve your skills and knowledge.
What subjects do you like the most? Why?
- I like subjects taught by teachers who love their work and feel the need to share their valuable knowledge. The subject that particularly interests me is called "Animal Ethology". It helps us understand animal behavior and the relations between physiological processes.
What is your attitude towards modern technologies in veterinary medicine? Are there any new methods of treatment or diagnostics that impress you?
- Positively, as increased efficiency definitely has a positive effect on work. I am impressed by the special attention to humane treatment, ensuring the most comfortable conditions for animals, reducing stress and trauma in new methods of treatment and diagnostics.
Do you have pets?
- Yes. Cats Dzhiga, Barya and dogs Kai and Lucky.
Tell us about the most interesting incident that happened to you during your practice or internship.
- Absolutely all cases of getting acquainted with different areas, since new areas always arouse interest.
What difficulties did you encounter when working with animals during your internship?
- When I started my practical veterinary work, I felt some anxiety and faced a whole range of emotions.
